Daniel and The Lion's Den
Daniel 6:1-23

My name is Daniel, and I am of the tribe of Judah. I was from a well-to-do family who was carried off to Babylon as a captive of the Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar.

My three friends and I were given Babylonian names and were trained to serve the royal throne.

Because I served the king well by explaining his unusual dreams I was promoted to an important position. I also explained some strange handwriting on the wall. It was because of God that these things happened to me.

When the Persians took over the Babylonian Empire, I held an important office under the Persian ruler, Darius.

Some jealous Persians wanted to get rid of me and laid a trap for me. They knew that I loved God and would worship Him only, they encouraged Darius to pass a new law. The law stated that whoever prayed to anyone, divine or human, for thirty days, except to the king, would be thrown into a den of lions.

I knew about the law, but I continued to get down on my knees three times a day to pray to God and praise Him.

Although King Darius regretted it, he felt obligated to carry out the law when some jealous Persians insisted that I be thrown into a den of lions because I was caught worshiping God.

King Darius made every effort to rescue me, but the evil men pointed out that any law signed by the king could not be changed.

Before the king gave the command for me to be thrown into the den of lions, he said to me, "May your God, whom you faithfully serve, deliver you!"

I was thrown into the lion's den, a rock was laid on the opening of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring.

At the break of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the den of lions. He cried out, "O, Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God whom you faithfully serve been able to deliver you from the lions?"

I answered the king, "O, king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths so that they would not hurt me, because I was found blameless before Him; and before you, O king, I have done no wrong."

The king was very happy and commanded that I be taken up out of the den. No harm had befallen me, because I had trusted in God.

My story came from the book of Daniel.
